10 Ways to Refresh Your Faith

Things You Can Do to Add Spice to Your Christian Walk

By , About.com Guide

As we grow as Christians we can sometimes get stuck in a routine, so we need ways to refresh our faith.  It's easy to become complacent, but it doesn't always lead us down the right path.   In fact, when we get more focused on the routine, we become less focused on God.  Here are some ways you can add spice to your Christian walk so that your faith is refreshed:

1. Go to a Different Service

If you go to the same service every week, your might feel the Word getting stale.  Sometimes going to a different service at your church, or even going to another church from time to time can help spark something new in your walk.

2. Try a New Youth Group

Each youth group is different, and like people they all have their strengths and weaknesses. The great thing is that many churches hold their youth group activities and meetings on different days. Try out a couple different groups to get some new perspectives.

3. Join a Bible Study…or Start One Yourself

The Bible is an important staple in our faith, but that doesn't mean it is always exciting to read over and over. Doing a Bible study can refresh our faith, because it gives us new ways to look at what we are reading. If there isn't one available, why not start a bible study yourself?

4. Start a Devotional

When I get somewhat complacent or bored with my faith, the quest for a new devotional begins. Finding new messages in devotionals or new perspectives adds a little spice to our walk.

5. Be a Mentor

New Christians tend to see their faith as something exciting and adventurous.  As someone who has been a Christian for a while you can add insight into their walk.  Yet, their excitement is often contagious.  Being a mentor can refresh our faith, because it reminds us of why we became Christians in the first place.

6. Find a Partner

So, not everyone is good at being a leader or mentor.  If that's the case, it might be good just to find a mentor or accountability partner.  Having someone to bounce your concerns or ideas off of can lead to explorations of new areas in your Christian walk.

7. Find a New Book of the Bible

There are books that many Christians tend to skip over. For instance, Numbers can sometimes feel like a counting lesson rather than a faith lesson. However, there is a lot of other things in these books that we often miss. Taking on a new book of the Bible that you haven't read before can be a faith refresher.

8. Pray a New Way

Do you always pray in the morning? Evening before bed? Try praying at a new time or in a new place. Ever prayed outside at sunrise? At a flagpole for SYATP? With friends or at the altar? Finding new places to pray can add a little adventure to your faith. Or try praying a new prayer. Focus your prayers on one thing or expand them out to new things.

9. Talk to Others about Your Faith

Evangelism is a great way to refresh our faith, because it makes us remember why we came to Christ in the first place. Sharing your testimony with others brings us back to a place when we realize how desperate we were for God to intervene in our lives.

10. Do Something for Others

Joining an outreach group brings us to acting out our faith, and it reminds us of how good we have it. Whether the outreach is helping other kids with their schoolwork or cleaning up an old park, doing something that helps other people can be a way to refresh our faith.
