Fun Bible Facts for Christian Teens: Get Centered with Psalms 118

In studying the Bible, some experts have come up with several fun facts. Do you know what Bible verse is at the very center of the Bible? Here are some fun facts every Christian teen should know about the central chapter of the Bible - Psalms 118.

Location, Location, Location

  • The middle chapter of the Bible is Psalm 118.
  • The longest Chapter of the Bible is Psalm 119.
  • The shortest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 117.

Adding It All Up

  • How many chapters exist before Psalm 118? 594
  • How many chapters of the Bible exist after Psalm 118? 594
  • Add the two together and you get 1188.
  • What is the verse at the very center of the Bible? Psalm 118:8*

Get Centered

Psalm 118:8 - "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man." (NIV)

Are you in the center of God's word? The very center of the Bible reminds us to trust in God over trusting in ourselves or other people. The next time you consider making God the center of your life, remind yourself to go to the center of the Word. Spending time in prayer and in the Word allows you to grow closer to God and stronger in your faith. Even in the most difficult times, trusting in God is at the center of His will for our lives.

*A Caveat...

While fun facts like these draw our attention to certain verses, the "center of the Bible" statistics are not applicable to every version of the Bible. Why? Well, Catholics use a different Bible, and Hebrews use another. Some experts have calculated Psalm 117 as the center of the King James Version of the Bible, while others state that there is no central verse of the Bible due to an even number of verses.

Do these varying opinions take away from the significance of Psalm 118? Well, for those that are of the opinion that it is not the central verse of the Bible all it does it take away that distinction. It does not, however, take away the significance of the statement. Christians should make God the center of their lives, and numerical controversy should not take away from that spiritual guidance.
