Guide Review - Movie Review
You are more than what you wear or own. In a fluffy movie like Confessions of a Shopaholic, that's a pretty heavy message. There are messages about honesty, being responsible with money, and friendships all throughout the movie. While they aren't presented in an overtly Christian manner, they are still important themes running through any Christian teens life.
After all, how hard is it to be truly honest with your friends? When your friends are doing something that hurts them, do you say something? When you're doing something that hurts you, do they confront you? Well, the main character, Rebecca, has those types of friends who confront her and help her out of her spending problem. That's pretty amazing.
The movie also shows the hazards of an "I want it now!" attitude. We live in an instant society where we can access items and information almost any time of day. We have overnight shipping and 24-hour stores. And we have credit. Teens today have more access to credit than ever before, and they can even leave high school already under hundreds or thousands of dollars in debt. Confessions delves into that debt, albeit from an adult standpoint, in a way that should put up some warning signs for Christian teens considering credit cards.
