Basic Information:
  • President: Bill Pugh
  • Founded: 1966, by Dave Hannah
  • Headquarters: Xenia, Ohio
Mission Statement: Athletes in Action exists to boldly proclaim the love and truth of Jesus Christ to those uniquely impacted by sport worldwide by winning, building, and sending athletic influencers.
Super Bowl Breakfast: The Super Bowl Breakfast is an NFL-sanctioned event that began in 1988. It is held every year in the host city of the Super Bowl. One of the marquee Super Bowl events, it features speakers and special guests from the NFL, both past and present. Presented at the event each year is the Bart Starr Award named after the legendary Hall of Fame quarterback. The award is given each year to the NFL player—voted on by his peers—who best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field, and in the community.
Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast: Known as one of the premier events during the NCAA Men’s Final Four weekend, the breakfast is held every year in the city that hosts the Final Four. The event features speakers and special guests from the sport of basketball. Each year the Coach Wooden “Keys to Life” Award is presented to a past or present college or professional basketball player or coach whose life best demonstrates the “Keys to Life” in the home, on the court, and in the community. The award is modeled after UCLA legend John Wooden for his high level of moral character, integrity and faith, on and off the court.
AIA Opportunities: Through athletic camps, international teams, and domestic teams made up of AIA staff, coaches, and athletes, the platform of sport serves to share the message of Jesus Christ to millions of men, women, and children around the world. This is accomplished through camps, sports clinics, and competitive games. These experiences also provide the opportunity to train and equip participating athletes and coaches for a lifetime of ministry.
Products: AIA also has several products available for Christians to share the Word through the media. There are DVDs that have athletes in a variety of sports discussing their faith. There are also DVDs of the Super Bowl Breakfast and Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast. They also offer booklets and other resources for sharing gospel.
Interested in Volunteering for AIA?: If you have a strong walk with the Lord and a desire to be a Christian leader to athletes on your campus, you may want to volunteer with Athletes in Action. You can call AIA at 1-888-808-LINC (5462) or e-mail them to find out more about how you can get involved.
A Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ: Athletes in Action is a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International, one of the world’s largest non-profit, interdenominational organizations, founded by Bill and Vonette Bright in 1951. Campus Crusade has more than 26,000 staff members and a ministry presence in 190 countries around the world. Campus Crusade is dedicated to showing people how to know and experience God’s love and plan for their lives.
