What is an "Apostle?"

Definition: The 12 early followers of Christ were the original apostles. Apostles have also come to mean those that follow Christ and bring his message to the world. In the Mormon faith, one of the 12 administrative officials of the church are called apostles.
Pronunciation: uh-pos-uls
Examples:
Jesus' apostles were Simon Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (the son of Alpheus), Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas Iscariot.
