What is the Spiritual Gift of Administration?

The spiritual gift of administration may not be one you think you would have as a teen, but you'd probably recognize it more if we called it the spiritual gift of organization. This person will manage projects and is very efficient in what they do. People with this gift help save the church time and money by being able to see how things can be done better.

People with this gift are able to really see the details clearly. They are good problem solvers, and they keep their eyes on achieving the goals in front of them. They have an ability to organize information, money, people, and more.

There can be a tendency with the spiritual gift of administration to get so involved in how things should be done to forget about the people who are doing things. This insensitivity can lead to bullying or becoming closed minded. Also, people with this gift can sometimes take on way too much themselves, so God actually gets pushed out of the picture. It's important for people with this gift to pray and read their Bibles regularly, as people with this gift are prone to focusing on the tasks at hand rather than meeting their own spiritual needs.

Is the Gift of Administration My Spiritual Gift?

Ask yourself the following questions. If you answer "yes" to many of them, then you may have the spiritual gift of administration:

• When there is no clear leader, do you often find people turning to you to make decisions?
• When you see poor organization does it drive you crazy?
• Do you get excited about working on projects?
• Does getting people organized and keeping things moving smoothly come naturally to you?
• Do you tend to be a bit of a Type A perfectionist?

Spiritual Gift of Administration in Scripture:

1 Corinthians 12: 27-28 - "All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages." NLT

1 Corinthians 14:40- "But be sure that everything is done properly and in order." NLT

Luke 14:28-30 "But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. They would say, 'There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!'" NLT

Acts 6:1-7 - "But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food.   So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, 'We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.' Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them. So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too." NLT

Titus 1:5- "I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you." NLT

Luke 10:1-2 "The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit. These were his instructions to them: 'The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.'" NLT

Genesis 41:41, 47-49- "So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.'…During the seven years of abundance the land produced plentifully. Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure." NIV

Genesis 47:13-15- " There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine. Joseph collected all the money that was to be found in Egypt and Canaan in payment for the grain they were buying, and he brought it to Pharaoh’s palace. When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone, all Egypt came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? Our money is all gone.”" NIV
