Bible Verses on Perseverance

Bible. Kelli Mahoney

Perseverance isn’t simple, it takes a lot of effort, and unless we keep our hearts with God and our eyes on the goal, it is easy to give up. Here are some Bible verses that remind us that perseverance pays off in the end, and that God is always with us:

Perseverance is Exhausting

Persevering is not easy, and it can take its toll on us emotionally and physically. If we know that, we can plan ahead to combat the weariness we will feel when we face those moments of sheer exhaustion. The Bible reminds us that we will grow tired, but to work through those moments.

Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (NIV)

2 Thessalonians 3:13
And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. (NIV)

James 1:2-4
My friends, be glad, even if you have a lot of trouble. You know that you learn to endure by having your faith tested. But you must learn to endure everything, so that you will be completely mature and not lacking in anything. (CEV)

1 Peter 4:12
Dear friends, don’t be surprised or shocked that you are going through testing that is like walking through fire. (CEV)

1 Peter 5:8
Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack. (CEV)

Mark 13:13
And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (NLT)

Revelation 2:10
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. [a]Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (NASB)

1 Corinthians 16:13
Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (NKJV)

Perseverance Brings Positive Gains

When we persevere, we succeed no matter what. Even if we don’t meet our goals, we find success in lessons we learn along the way. There is no failure so great that we can’t find something positive in it.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. (ESV)

Romans 5:3-5
Not only so, but we[a] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (NIV)

Hebrews 10:35-36
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (NIV)

Matthew 24:13
But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (NLT)

Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (NLT)

1 Corinthians 10:13

Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. (NIV)
