1 Corinthians 9:25 - "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." (NIV)
Having a strong faith is like training to be an elite athlete. Elite athletes spend hours in the gym. They know their bodies are like a machine that has to stay well oiled and fit to do the job at hand. They eat well, sleep well, and prepare their minds for whatever challenge they face in their particular sport. Growing our faith should be no different.
People with a strong faith know that faith is something to be exercised. It's like the athlete's body. We read our Bible to feed us with God's desires and direction. We pray to God or the strength to get through each day. We go to church to see the game plan in action. Every day there are things that want to take us away from our faith, so it's important to keep our faith fit and strong.
