The Inner Martha in All of Us

Follow me on:

Ever get so busy you feel like life is a blur? Sometimes we get so caught up in "doing" that we forget how to "be." The story of Mary and Martha is a good reminder that God wants us to remember the important joys in life.

In Luke 10: 38-42 Martha invited Jesus into her home. While there, Mary sat at Jesus' feet and listened to him speak. Meanwhile, Martha was focusing on being a good hostess and worked in the kitchen alone. She resented her sister neglecting the duties Martha thought were so important, but Jesus gently rebuked her. In today's terms, he told Martha that it was a good thing to relax and choose His presence rather than get wound up in things that will one day disappear.

I know that I struggle a great deal with my inner Martha. I think many Christians do. We all get caught up in studying, activities, chores, etc. Yet, we cannot forget to enjoy God's glory. We need to fill our spirits with Him to be truly at peace and get the spiritual feeding we need. Be sure to take a deep breath this week to pray and be joyful in God.

Hi Kelli,

This is not a comment on your blog entry of today (sorry) but I saw no other way to get this message to you. I hope you don’t mind…

First of all, I appreciate your efforts in Guide to Christian Teens. Yet today, I stumbled on your page “Top 9 Magazines for Christian Teens” in search for a something great to subscribe to for my kids. I think you might want to edit that page. Some of the magazines don’t exist anymore, links go nowhere, and realiteen dot com brought me to a parking site with links to websites we don’t want our teens to click on.

Anyways, I hope you are able to change that page soon.

Thank you, Kelli.

Warm regards,
God bless
Trisha

I disagree with you to a certain extent. In 1986 I was picked up for curfew and I was with in 18 year old, however I was only 16 and the time was 10 minutes after 11:00. I will fast foward it to 2008. My soon to be step daughter was leaving home and her mom told her to be back by 11:00 and her daughter started cursing her mom and told her I will come back when I want. This kid has to have problems and no body would step in and help the parent out. The mom called the police and they did nothing . What kind of city would leave a child run the streets until 2 am in the morning and sometimes this kid would come home a week later. I could write a whole book on this non sense. I lost 10000 dollars worth of stuff and this town had to be a joke.
