You Don't Have to Worry if You Don't Start at All

Saturday June 13, 2009

Congress is looking to get even tougher on tobacco companies than ever before. Everyone pretty much knows that smoking is bad for you, but thousands of teens start smoking every day. Those "few cigarettes" often end up becoming a habit and eventually an addiction.

Smoking is a difficult thing to quit, and people try all the time. The longer a person smokes, the harder it gets...ask President Obama. He's making attempts to quit the habit, but it's not always easy. The easiest way to quit smoking is to not start at all.

While the physical dangers of smoking are well known, what about the spiritual dangers. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on the planet. The Bible tells us in 1 Cor. 6:19-20, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" (NIV). Taking care of our bodies is a great testimony to God, and it sets an example for others to follow.
