Is Your Bible the Law or an Advice Manual?

Thursday December 4, 2008

Many people today avoid Christianity, because they see the Bible as a list of rules and regulations that keep them from having any type of fun. Yet is that what the Bible really is? Sure, there are rules to live by on every page. The Ten Commandments are a great example of outlining some rules. However, the Bible is so much more than a law book.

Many Christians see the Bible as so much more. For every "rule" in the Bible, there is an example of how to live that rule in your life. There are lessons in every book of the Bible that do not just demand you live by the rules "or else," instead things like parables, proverbs, and stories demonstrate how to live for God, which offers so much more than anything the world can provide.

Too often people see Christianity as ties that bind people up instead of seeing it as the opportunity to be free from the sin that bogs us down. We all make mistakes from time to time, but it is through God that we can lift ourselves up and try again. It is the Bible that shows us how to do that, and by staying in God's Word we know that we are getting the best advice of all.
