Young People Discussing Faith

Thursday January 24, 2008

As Christian teens you have probably felt awkward or prejudiced against at some point and time. Often the offending person makes statements about your faith out of ignorance or having faced those that "pushed" faith rather than lived it. Others feel awkward about discussing your faith, because faith is one of those topics that people often feel should be kept absolutely private, never to be discussed even among friends. The lack of discussion about faith, though, often leads to those situations in which Christian teens feel they are being looked down upon or placed in a stereotype.

However, Good Morning America's Robin Roberts opens up the door of discussion about faith when she sat down with a panel of young people from the Interfaith Youth Corp this morning, and asked them to share a bit about why it is important to discuss faith, because faith itself is a common bond among people. The young people talk about how opening up the discussion allows people of different faiths and denominations to come together as people. The group makes it clear that not all faiths are alike, but instead focuses on the positive side of their individual faiths to make a difference in the world through helping people.

The interesting side of this discussion was that the group was able to come together and discuss their different beliefs without causing arguments or major conflicts. While some Christians may fear hearing about other faiths, it is often in the discussions comparing faith that Christians gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for Christianity.

Hi my name is Sade and I am 18 years old. I think that this is very good idea for young christian teens to discuss the different types of religion after all there is alot of different religion. I wish I could sit and talk about religion with my non-christians friends but for some reason we never seem to get anywhere without someone questioning my beliefs or trying to convert me into their religion.
